Our quality of sleep determines our Wellness perhaps more than any other factor. Lack of sleep can kill. Vehicle crashes from drowsy driving exceed those from BOTH drunk driving and driving under the influence of drugs combined.
After being awake for 19 hours, drivers were as impaired as those legally drunk. Getting behind the wheel with 4 hours or less and you are 11.5 times more likely to crash. Four hours of sleep and being drunk is the worst increasing the risk 30X.
Great sleep lifts all boats in the harbor and is the best anti-inflammatory known for both the brain and body. It is the anti-aging miracle that heals both body and brain.
What is great sleep?
Fall asleep easily without need for a drug.
Stay asleep though the night with no interruptions.
Awake rested, recharged and ready to go.
A balance of NREM sleep and REM sleep
NREM (Non Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is deep delta wave sleep that allow our brain to prune away connections no longer being used, detox and flush away toxins, and normalize inflammation and swelling. Lack of NREM sleep leads to poor memory and dementia symptoms. Laser or other stimulation to the prefrontal cortex can enhance this critical form of sleep.
REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep allows making new connections. While dreaming, the “theatre of our mind” combines memories in new and remarkably creative combinations. It solidifies movement patterns like the new piano piece or basketball shot so by morning, we “have it down”. Poor REM sleep is often demonstrated by someone who can’t remember if they dreamed and is also linked with a high risk of dementia. Thiamine 50 support this type of sleep.
Lack of sufficient quality and quantity of sleep leads to memory and function losses just like dementia. In fact, you can create dementia through poor sleep.
NREM deep sleep activates the deep cleaning, glymphatic cleaning and detox system that flushes out chemical toxins, adenosine, tau protein, amyloid, and other toxic proteins linked with dementia.
This is so important that just one night of poor sleep creates a prediabetic condition the next day and can lead to binging on up to 40% more junk food carbs than normal.
What helps us get to sleep?
Our circadian rhythm helps us wake up and fall asleep on schedule when working properly. We need sunlight on our face and just 5 minutes of exercise to set our circadian clock in the morning. In the evening, it is ideal to eat dinner at least 3 hours before bedtime. Also really important to turn off computers, phones, TV, and any other electronics at least 1 hour before bedtime – 2 hours is better.
Lastly, avoid “junk light” especially in the evening. LED lights, computers, TV’s, and phones emit harsh blue frequencies that rev the brain making quality sleep unlikely. Wearing “True Dark” twilight glasses at least one hour before bed blocks 4 different sleep harming wavelengths of light. Ideal is wearing our True Darks when the sun goes down. https://truedark.com/twilights/
The Microbiome is currently one of the most intensely researched areas in science. PubMed, the NIH federal library of medical research, shows over 86,000 results for published research papers on our Microbiome, almost all of it in the last five years.
What is our Microbiome?
What are practical steps to support our microbiome and our immune system so we can stay well in challenging times:
It is the 100 Trillion non-human cells that live in us and on us. It is the “germs” that live on our skin (2 million per ½ inch square on our forearm), in our mouth, our sinuses, our bloodstream, our gut and everywhere inside and outside our body. In fact, our human cells are outnumbered by the “germs” that make up our Microbiome. In reality, we are 100 Trillion “germs” covered in human skin.
Most of these “germs” are bacteria and viruses that seek to coexist peacefully with us and promote our health and wellbeing. Most of them live in our gut, especially in our Large Intestine. They play critical roles in digestion, metabolism, immune health, brain health, and store 98% of all the genetic information (DNA) we need to stay healthy and thrive. In fact, our mitochondria talk to our gut bacteria. We need a healthy microbiome to have healthy mitochondria, the foundation of energy and Wellness!
Staying Well In Covid
If our immune system can handle 100 trillion germs in and on us, can it also handle the common cold, flu, or Covid virus? Of course – as long as we take care of our immune system so it is working reasonably well. What would happen if we put as much time, effort, and energy into boosting our Microbiome and immune Wellness as we do to masking, distancing, and worrying?
The less your food has been doctored, the less you need a doctor. Minimize eating food that has been processed or doctored. Go light on dead food that comes from “food coffins” – the boxes, cans, and plastic that entombs dead food. Eat more of the “fresh stuff”.
Eat what your body likes rather than what you like. We tend to like the sugary “junk food” loaded with excitotoxic taste enhancers that excite our brain neurons to death. They also starve our microbiome “rainforest” of the critical fiber it depends on. A piece of cake feeds only us and makes us old, fat, and sick. A piece of broccoli feeds both our body and our microbiome to keep us lean, energized, and youthful.
Fix your metabolism. When is works, you have a “thin person” microbiome. When it is in trouble, we often develop a “fat person” microbiome. Fixing your metabolism often requires a “solve the puzzle” approach involving optimizing our mitochondria, gut health, brain balance, eating smart & supplementing to fit our unique genetic needs, optimize sleep, and detox. Feed Your Microbiome Diversity. Repairing our microbiome diversity is critical to restoring Wellness. An important indicator of a healthy microbiome is Great bowel movements. This means at least 2/day, formed dark brown, don’t float, no straining, and almost no need to toilet tissue to clean after. Here are the practical steps:
Eat the Rainbow. Strive to eat 9 colors or fresh/frozen veggies or fruits per day. Always go heavy on veggies and much lighter on fruit.
Each day, eat one of the Root Veggies, eat two of the prebiotic foods, and at least one forkful of a fermented food from the lists below
Fermented Food with Live culture (in refrigerator section)
Sauerkraut (Wild Brine, Bubbles brands, etc)
Onion, Garlic, Leeks
Apple Cider Vinegar
Sweet Potatoes, Yams
When we take care of our Microbiome, it takes care of us
When things first broke loose in March, I had some fear and uncertainty. Doing the research with due diligence to understand what was really happening helped me come to term with the real issues and move beyond fear. This is what I have come to understand:
While reducing exposure matters, boosting our immune system matters far more. My understanding is that a stronger immune system is over 90% of the focus and avoiding exposure is much less.
Reducing exposure to an air-borne virus – flu, common cold, or COVID 19 – is extremely difficult. Masks and distancing have very limited effect.
Optimizing Vitamin D blood levels has a profound effect on immune Wellness. The published paper in the journal Nutrients 2020,12,2757 suggests that up to 90% of all COVID deaths are from Vitamin D insufficiency.
Sunlight, sleep, stress management, exercise as well as eliminating junk food and sugary drinks and replacing with a variety of fresh vegetables and nutrient dense foods also help.
Fear, Fear, Fear is the virus that is most harmful.
With few exceptions, those who are dying with COVID are those within 6 months of dying from other causes – heart disease, cancer, diabetes, dementia, multi-system organ failure.
We are 100 Trillion viruses, bacteria, and other germs covered in human skin. Our human cells are outnumbered by the “germs” that live in and on us called our Microbiome. Many of these “germs” are critically important to our healthy and immune Wellness. Learning to take care of our Microbiome is profoundly important for immune Wellness.
Our misguided efforts to protect the elderly have unleashed a cruel epidemic of anxiety, depression, loneliness, isolation in which many fear being imprisoned in assisted living “prisons”. Many are losing their will to live and dying from isolation. This feels like “cruel and unusual punishment”.
In summary, I feel no fear as I treat patients and am exposed in countless ways to those with the flu, common cold, and COVID 19 virus. My immune system has been keeping me healthy for over 60 years. When I take reasonably good care of my immune system, it takes great care of me.
I am open to a safe and effective vaccine. What do we know about the two COVID vaccines available?
Both the Moderna and Pfizer COVID vaccines are only tested and approved to reduce symptoms of cough and fever from COVID. They are not tested or approved to reduce infection or transmission. How is this any better than a bottle of Theraflu? The masking and distancing requirements after the vaccine are not eliminated. Does this sound like it is effective?
These COVID vaccines use synthetic reverse RNA for the first time ever in humans. This is an experimental gene-altering drug. Do I want to be a “guinea pig” test subject for this potentially high-risk experiment? We won’t know the full effects for years.
The Moderna and Pfizer COVID vaccines have received Emergency Use Authorizations (EAU) but not yet full vaccine licenses. Under federal law 21 U.S.C. § 360bbb-3 “Emergency Use Authorization” means that any product with this designation must be voluntary. These COVID vaccines cannot be mandatory because they are experimental.
4.The side effects are significant: 653 Deaths + 12,044 Other Injuries reported Following COVID Vaccine as of February 4th as reported by the CDC. Research shows only 10% of vaccine injuries are reported so the numbers are likely far higher.
5.The side effects can be serious: Aside from sudden death within hours or days,10,11,12,13,14 examples of side effects among survivors of the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines include:
Persistent malaise15,16 and extreme exhaustion17
Severe allergic, including anaphylactic reactions18,19,20
Many say they “feel weird” and that they “don’t feel like myself.” Dizziness, racing heart and extreme high blood pressure seem to be a common complaint, as is severe, chronic seemingly “unbreakable” headache that does not respond to medication. Many describe the pain they feel in their body as “being run over by a bus” or “being beaten with a bat.”
Some report swollen and painful lymph nodes, severe muscle pain and gastrointestinal issues. Symptoms mimicking stroke are being reported, even though CT scans show nothing of concern. One such report is from a 19-year-old girl. Several report lethal heart attacks claiming the lives of someone they love.
Psychological effects are also starting to creep in. One woman who is on chemotherapy reports “mood changes with intermittent periods of elation and mild euphoria.” Bouts of anxiety, depression, brain fog, confusion and dissociation are also being reported, as is an inability to sleep.
One person reports having lost “the voice in my head,” which I suspect is the ability to hear yourself think. Another reports losing the ability to formulate words about half an hour after getting the first dose of vaccine, and a third reports “struggling for lost words.” Loss of taste and/or smell are also being reported, as well as taste alterations. Several say they have developed a metallic taste since their vaccination.
One pregnant woman reported spontaneous rupture of the amniotic sac resulting in premature delivery. Another woman’s baby was found to have no heartbeat two days after her vaccination and was delivered stillborn. Several describe effects suggesting vascular problems, such as skin blotchiness and fingers turning blue.
While people are hoping and praying their side effects will be temporary, a significant portion say they’re still struggling with the effects one or two weeks after their shot. Time will tell whether they turn out to be permanent, but considering the fact that the mRNA vaccines reprogram your DNA, there’s certainly the possibility that they might be long-lasting.
My personal decision is to avoid this vaccine – for me it doesn’t fit the criteria of safe and effective. For those who choose this experimental new gene therapy, my prayers are with them for safety and full recovery from side-effects. I am most concerned about the prospects for long-term autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases from this experimental gene therapy. Make your decision carefully based on all the facts and do not allow yourself to be coerced or forced into something that doesn’t seem right for you. Whatever you choose, we will support you in your decision.
